Kingstar Magnetic Mobile Phone Cooler
This magnetic phone cooler is a great concept because it combines two useful products into one. Unfortunately, our unit was defective out of the box. The USB port was loose inside the device and was impossible for us to repair. The price ($34 at the time of publishing) is comparable to other phone coolers, but since our device didn't work, it wasn't a good investment.

Phone cooler is a great idea but a dead-on-arrival unit left us high and dry.
Just a few months ago, my fiancé scoured the Earth looking for a PlayStation 5. The previous year, we lucked into an Xbox Series X and this year, it was time to get the PS5. He eventually found one being sold locally and I thought that he was set as far as gaming consoles go. Shortly after the PS5 was set up, he discovered Call of Duty mobile on his iPhone. He has a controller that works with the iPhone so it’s more like a console controller. He spends hours playing COD mobile (and not on his consoles) online with people around the world.
Recently, after he had been playing for a while, he called out to me to ask if there was anything we could do to help his phone cool down. I didn’t take a temperature reading, but it was hot to the touch. I grabbed a frozen gel pack – the kind you get to help strained muscles – from our freezer and we loosely attached it to the phone. It helped, but it wasn’t a very good long-term solution.
This is when we discovered an accessory that seems silly but is actually very practical for mobile gamers – a magnetic mobile phone cooler. This device attaches to the back of a phone and cools it down using an electronic cooling plate that draws heat away from the smartphone and dissipates it with a fan. There are many companies on Amazon that are selling these and even some more premium brands such as Razer. We happened to get the Kingstar Mobile Phone Cooler.
DETAILS
The Kingstar Mobile Phone Cooler has a built-in cooling fan and semiconductor cooling technology to help cool phones down quickly. Cooling a phone down also helps to reduce the battery drain on the device. This cooler also has a magnetic charger built into it. Kingstar included a magnetic ring in the package in case a user did not have a built-in magnet.
The charger does require a 30W power supply, which is not included. A USB-C cable is included. The cooler has built-in RGB ambient lights that enhance the user’s experience – especially in low-light situations.
Package comes with:
- 1 x Magnetic Wireless Cooler
- 1 x Magnetic Metal Ring Sticker
- 1 x 3.3 feet USB-C Cable
- 1 x User Manual
USER EXPERIENCE
Even though my fiancé is the one doing the gaming, I had some thoughts about this product, too. First of all, the concept of it is great. This particular phone cooler is also a MagSafe charger, which is very convenient. I don’t like the fact that it has to be plugged in to work, but at least your phone is getting recharged at the same time that it’s getting cold.
The phone cooler had a strong magnet in it and connected to the iPhone quite easily. The phone recognized it was a charger, too and we saw the charging emblem appear on the iPhone along with the familiar charging ding sound. The lights were colorful and at a medium brightness level. The fan was pretty quiet.
On our first attempt to get it working, it seemed as though we had a winning device. Unfortunately, any slight movement made the phone cooler stopped working. We had it plugged into a 30W wall charger (as suggested) and the cable was inserted completely into the USB-C port on the cooler, but almost as soon as it started up, the fan quit.
We were both very disappointed about the defective equipment. We did basic troubleshooting to try and alleviate the issue – switched USB-C cables, tried different power adapters, etc. No matter what we tried, we could not get the phone cooler to hold power. The manual that came with the cooler was no help either. In fact, it brought up more questions than answers.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered that the USB port itself was loose inside the case of the phone cooler. So, even though the cable was inserted properly and connected correctly, the connection inside the phone cooler wasn’t providing the power where it needed to go. And, any vibration, movement, the jiggling of the cable, etc. would cause the power connection to fail.
CONCLUSION
The idea of having a mobile phone cooler for gaming is a great concept. It solves a common problem and we thought that the Kingstar Magnetic Mobile Phone Cooler might be a winner for us. Its retail price is around $34 (at the time of publishing) and it charges the phone as well as cools it down. Unfortunately, it was a non-starter.
