With the Vivint App, you can now monitor/control/secure your myQ Chamberlain Group Garage door opener.
After marrying the love of my life in 2006, my wife and I moved from our temporary home to our first semi-permanent home. With a new baby, in a town that we had some familiarity with, and a job that regularly took me away overnight and on the weekends, I wanted a sentry to guard my family when I could not. Luckily, a good friend of mine introduced me to a relatively new home monitoring company named VIVINT. Founded in 1999 by Keith Nellesen and Todd Peterson as APX Alarm Security Solutions, the company rebranded itself into Vivint in February of 2011. Having been with Vivint for nearly a decade now, it feels that my family has grown alongside the company. From the original Go Control Panel plus fire alarm and door/window sensors, we upgraded to a new Sky Control Panel. We added door locks, lamp modules, improved smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, added a doorbell camera, outdoor cameras, an indoor Vivint Ping camera, then added Element Thermostats, and the CarGuard monitoring system. Within the last few weeks, I have upgraded the system yet again to add the new Vivint Smart Hub, Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro, Outdoor Camera Pro, and water/leak sensors. Please look for reviews of the above system in the coming weeks.
Similar to their technology, Vivint has grown beyond a simple home monitoring program into a Vivint SmartHome experience. In fact, as of today, July 21, 2020, Vivint Smart Home will integrate with myQ Smart Garage controls, which are present within the Chamberlain Group (CGI) LiftMaster and Chamberlain garage door opener brands. Vivint customers, with a myQ enabled smart garage door opener, will gain additional Vivint App functionality; you can “control, secure, and monitor your garage, anytime, from anywhere, using a single Vivint Smart Home App.” With outdoor cameras, doorbell cameras, and door/window sensors/locks, Vivint already provides 24/7 monitoring/customer care and allows their users to secure the most common access points to their home. However, the above setup left a large unsecured access point into many of our homes. With this new integration, Vivint can secure the last portal of entry into your home.
Imagine being able to protect access to your vehicles/tools, or to be able to set an activity to allow your garage door to open when you arrive home. Would it help to be alerted if your garage door was left open for a certain period? What if the door would automatically shut after a certain period of time had lapsed? Maybe, you want the garage door to automatically open/close at a certain time of day or to be triggered by certain activities? Have you ever forgotten to close your garage door or felt uncertain if it reopened after you left? This feeling is not unlike trying to remember if you locked your door or if you unplugged the coffee pot. With the Vivint App integration, you can gain peace of mind. You will be able to remotely open/close your garage and will gain the ability to check the status of the door if needed. Additionally, thanks to COVID-19, contactless grocery/non-grocery shopping/delivery has expanded. This technology could allow you to open your garage door to allow someone to deliver a package into a secure location. Perhaps you are out of town, and your neighbor wants to take out your trash or to place your mail indoors, out of the elements. The Vivint system will now allow you to remotely access your garage door or doors.
With the added smart myQ Garage Door features, Vivint continues to improve upon an award-winning system. You can welcome visitors/family/friends into your home, you can secure access to your vehicles, tools, and toys, and you can gain custom functionality. For those of you who already have a Chamberlain/LiftMaster system and a Vivint Smart Home setup, you should rejoice in the above news. If you enjoy the benefits of a modern Vivint system but have an older door lift system, perhaps it is time to invest in an upgrade (myQ or myQ garage door hub). Lastly, if you have a newer garage door system with myQ technology but do not yet have a Vivint system, it is time to contact www.vivint.com to start your in-home consultation today.
