Bumper case works with MagSafe while allowing the beauty of the iPhone to shine but fails at protection
Recently I have been playing a lot of Call of Duty mobile on my iPhone 13 Pro. I use the Razer Kishi, mobile phone controller. This gives me a pretty big advantage when playing iOS games, but the issue I have is that I need to pull off my phone’s case each time I go to play. That got me thinking about how much I really enjoyed the sleek design of the iPhone 13 Pro without a case. Then I found the K Tomoto bumper style case that gave me the look I want but unfortunately, it fails in few areas for me.
DETAILS
The K TOMOTO bumper case offers protection for the iPhone thanks to the premium liquid silicone material the bumper is made from. It’s shockproof, non-slip, and durable. The bumper provides a soft, silky-smooth texture grip and the raised edges protect the phone’s screen and back (not the camera system though) from drops. The minimalist design keeps the iPhone’s original appearance from being covered and helps to prevent the phone from overheating.
The bumper case is easy to install and does support wireless and MagSafe charging. The manufacturer does recommend using a lens protector for the camera system. The case features precise cutouts for all ports and buttons. The case comes with a 1-year hassle-free replacement option and lifetime support. The case only weighs 1.44 ounces.
USER EXPERIENCE
The K Tomoto comes in a cardboard box that is white and gold with the name Creative Case Universal Mobile Phone Case on the front and a barcode on the back. It’s very minimal. Inside the box, you’ll find the iPhone case and a one-page instruction paper. It highlights that you should not overly bend the case as it will warp it and make it useless. It also states not to drop your phone on pavement because raised concrete has the chance of damaging your phone.
As I mentioned above, this bumper case fell short for me in a few main areas. First, I still need to take it off to use my gaming controller. Second, and most importantly, the case has raised edges but when you lay it flat on its back, the camera system still smacks the table. It’s not raised high enough to protect the camera system from a flat drop to the concrete. It is, however, raised enough to bother your fingers while you use the phone.
In addition to those two areas, I really wasn’t a fan of the soft silicone feel of the case. I was hoping the K Tomoto would have a nice grip on it. To me, the soft silicone used actually felt slicker than just using my iPhone bare. This was a big disappointment to me. I think over time I can get used to the feel of the case; it might just be that I am used to the feel of a leather case.
Overall if you are looking for a minimal case to show off your iPhone and protect the sides only then this case should do the trick but I noticed that even small drops on the sides make an unruly sound as if the iPhone is hitting bare metal. That makes me wonder about the amount of protection that the phone is actually getting.
CONCLUSION
Will this case be my daily driver from here on out? No, I don’t think so. I LOVE how it allows for the back of the iPhone to be shown off because it makes it feel like I am rocking my iPhone without a case. The problem is I feel like I am rocking my iPhone without a case and it’s not getting any protection at all. For $21.99 at the time of this article, I don’t think you are getting the best buy with this bumper.
