Armor Z2 makes sure Internet connection is not ‘sub-par’ for gaming enthusiasts.
I am a gamer. When I say this, I mean it wholeheartedly. I would just sit at home and play games all day if it wasn’t for a pesky job and family commitments. It’s my simple escape from the everyday grind of life. I can literally be anything and everything at the click of a button. I would like to think that it helps me in my professional life by improving hand-eye coordination as well as keeping me sane. Unfortunately, I don’t get to play as much and I would like, so the few precious hours a week that I get are important to me. I play a lot of multiplayer games online and of course, my girlfriend also likes to watch Netflix at the exact second I start a game. The combination of both activities eats up Internet bandwidth. I desperately need it, otherwise, I will be a “lagger” and in some cases not even connect to the server. I needed a router dedicated and geared toward my gaming habits. I am an Apple fan, so of course, my router is made by them. Sadly, they aren’t geared toward gaming and I finally decided that I needed an upgrade.
ZyXEL’s Armor Z2 AC2600 MU-MIMO dual-band wireless gigabit router is the router I desperately needed. Let’s just talk about how it looks on the shelf. The router is all black with gold accent pieces, four antennae, and very slim. It looks liked Batman’s router. Style points are always important to me. The Armor Z2 isn’t just looks and style, though, it packs a mighty functional punch as well. Some of the features include:
- Support for 4K UHD media contents, immersive gaming, big file transferring, music streaming
- 1.7 GHz dual-core processor
- Dual-band WiFi
- Speed up to 2600 Mbps
- 4GB eMMC Flash Storage/512 MB RAM
The Armor Z2 is a gaming powerhouse with simple instructions. Installation is like most other routers. It’s simple and very straightforward as long as you use the quick start guide that’s included (in many different languages). Using the WiFi password and SSID printed on the inside of the box, I was able to connect to the Armor Z2 easily. There is another option for Android users that requires you to scan the QR code to connect. After using the default username and password to configure, I was ready to go. I did download ZyXEL’s ONE Connection app from the App Store to my iPhone. This allowed me to manage my router as well as monitor usage and be able to sync any settings.
Using the Armor Z2 was great from the get-go. After tweaking a few settings and setting up every device on the network, I saw an immediate difference from my previous router. I decided to set up both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz (1733Mbps) networks because not all of my devices work on 5Ghz or need to have the speed. My PS4 loved me. I was able to get the 4K streaming from Netflix. Once I started playing a game I noticed my bandwidth stayed steady in lobbies as well as matches. With 4 other devices connected, one of them being video streamed in high definition, I didn’t lose and of my signal or lag in game. This is the first time that I didn’t have to worry about my Internet being sub par while saving the world one battle at a time with friends.
