Like many, I excitedly awaited Apple’s September 12, 2023, new iPhone 15/15 Pro lineup announcement.  I enjoyed the presentation and the jazzy buzz of new features, then patiently prepared for the way-too-early morning preorder on September 15, 2023.  The build-up did not end with the iPhone release/arrival, however.  Despite the allure of the new shiny phone, I remained equally excited about new accessories and cases.  More specifically, I have looked forward to the launch of Catalyst’s iPhone 15 Pro Max 6.7” product line.

Packaging:

The catalyst Influence MagSafe Compatible iPhone 15 Pro Max Case arrived in an attractive 4 1/2 inches wide by 7 9/16 inches tall by 7/8 inches thick hanging-style retail case. The cover panel provided a pacific-blue banner with a bold catalyst company name along the top of the panel and a lower semi-translucent glossy plastic shell cover.  The lower edge of the cover provided a white sticker with the “Influence” product name and detailed the MagSafe compatibility, 6.7” Pro size, and drop-proof protective nature of the product.

The semi-clear cover panel provided more information than a flat drawing/photograph.  I enjoyed directly observing the case, the MagSafe ring, the protective-raised camera protector, and the wrist lanyard.  The blue-colored top panel provided a plastic hinging tab and catalyst web address. In contrast, the bottom panel provided typical product manufacturing labels (soy ink, recycled paper, Made in China, etc.).  The side panels provided a multilingual product feature description: 1. Mil-STD-810G 10ft/3M drop resistant (corner drops). 2. Up to 3.8dBa sound direction toward the user at 1cm over the base device standards.

catalyst Influence Case

The white-colored rear panel provided a more thorough description of the case and features.  The top picture showcased the forward-angled speaker cutouts and data suggesting the user can experience up to 30% louder forward-facing sound.  The second panel demonstrated the non-slip side panel grip material, while the third panel demonstrated an efficient, pocketable phone.  The fourth panel showed the easy-to-access side buttons, the fifth panel showcased several catalyst corner accessories, the sixth panel provided information about the anti-drop wrist lanyard (10Kg pull test), and the seventh panel detailed the raised-edge screen and camera protector.

The last summary image demonstrated a side view of the Influence case, a toggle mute wheel, and the raised camera protection. Interestingly, the image was one of an older device/design, as the new case had a right-side cutout for the new action button. Finally, the lower edge provided a QR code, product SKU barcode, design award logo, eco-friendly package logo, and information about warranty, trademarks, and warnings.

Testing:

I opened the packaging cover, removed the plastic insert, and then the cardboard strap (2.5x higher drop protection and up to 30% louder sound) that held the phone to the inner packaging. The Influence case measured 3 5/16 inches wide by 6 9/16 inches tall by 9/16 inches thick and weighed only 1.4 ounces.  The 0.1-ounce wrist lanyard was wrapped around the cardboard backing and packed adjacent to the phone case. The Influence case had a 1 5/8 inches wide by 1 11/16 inches tall by 1/8 inches tall camera cutout with a raised black border along the top left.

The remainder of the 2 7/8 inches wide by 6 1/8 inches tall back panel consisted of a smoky-frosted black plastic panel. Even though the smoky grey color was on the darker side, it still contrasted nicely against the glossy black camera protector, and the matte black MagSafe ring visible through the back frosted black panel (2 1/8 inches total diameter by 3/16 inches width and lower oval 1/4 inches wide by 13/16 inches tall magnet).

The right side panel (volume button side) provided a matte black grippy surface, rounded corners, a tapered 9/16 inches long by 5/16 inches tall action button cutout (inner dimension 7/16 inches long by 5/16 inches tall), and a conjoined 1 inch long by 1/8 inches tall volume up/down button.  The raised buttons provided a nice tactile feel and proved to be quite responsive.  The left side panel (power button side), provided the same matte black colored grippy surface and rounded corners as the other panel. You will find an etched “catalyst” name along the lower edge and a single 11/16 inches long by 1/8 inches tall power button near the top.

The lower grippy edge provided a 1/2 inches long by 1/4 inches tall USB-C port cutout and 1/16 inches diameter vent hole.  The flat top panel provided the same matte black colored panel and grippy surface material as the side panels. Each of the panels had angled trapezoidal edges for added grip and drop protection.  The slightly-raised front panel provided glancing protection for the iPhone screen.  Each corner had a 3/16 inches long by 3/32 inches tall accessory cutout.  These cutouts were designed to work with the wrist lanyard and Crux Accessory system.  Lastly, the lower edge of the front panel provided dual 9/16 inches long by 3/32 inches tall vented speaker cutouts for forward-facing sound.

catalyst Influence Case

To install the iPhone 15 Pro Max into the Influence case, you must first align the volume/action button side with the edge of the case.  I pressed the phone into the top edge of the case, then the power side, then the bottom edge.  I was pleased with the alignment of the power button, speaker, and USB-C ports and the case/phone’s lightweight nature.  The MagSafe Ring aligned well with the back of the phone and allowed access to MagSafe chargers/mounts without requiring phone case removal. Once my phone was inserted, I installed the wrist lanyard onto the lower crux accessory port.

I gripped the 2-inch-long narrow cable loop (1/16 inches diameter) and guided it through the lower corner crux attachment point.  I placed the 3/16 inches diameter paracord-like loop end (6 1/2 inches long wrist strap loop) through the narrow loop and tightened the Lark’s head knot.  I liked the 5/8 inches long by 5/16 inches wide bullet-shaped cable attachment point with an etched catalyst name, and the 5/16 inches-wide by 3/16 inches tall wrist lanyard slide.  I appreciated the easy installation process and the inclusion of the secure wrist loop/slide.

If you have not watched any drop-test demonstrations, I would encourage you to view them.  For my controlled tests, I held and dropped the iPhone 15 Pro Max Influence case combo onto each corner from a height of approximately 2.5 feet.  Each drop simulated a sliding phone from my dining room tabletop onto my hardwood floor.  I was pleased that the case was protected from these drops, and my iPhone remained undamaged.  I have not yet needed to test this version of the Influence catalyst case in a real-world drop scenario.

However, my children have previously tested the brand’s mettle and helped to forge my trust in the case. The raised screen border will allow you to set your iPhone face down without scratching the surface. While face-up, the borders will add a layer of glancing protection. Similarly, the camera borders added yet another layer of safety.  The case provided several layers of protection from the plastic barrier, raised bezels, a secure MagSafe magnetic attachment ring, and with the addition of various Crux Accessories (sold separately).

I was initially saddened when I learned the new case design removed the volume mute toggle wheel, which was historically a best-in-class feature. However, the new iPhone action button design demanded a change. Where many case brands provide a narrow, difficult-to-access cutout, the influence case provided appropriately sized cutouts for the action button and the lower USB-C port. I tested various USB-C cables against the lower cutout and found each fit nicely within the provided space. Additionally, the action button was easily accessed by my pointer finger or thumb, without obstruction. Lastly, the MagSafe feature allowed for secure magnetic mounting and wireless charging.

catalyst Influence Case

Summary:

You can purchase a clear or Atlantic Blue version if you are interested in other colors beyond the black/frosted case.  I enjoyed the color, the design, the grippy feel, and the overall layout of the case. The iPhone 15 Pro Max Influence case continues to build on my trust in catalyst, which started with my iPhone 6S plus. I look forward to yet another catalyst-enhanced year.

Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/incipio-cru-for-magsafe-iphone-15-case-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/incipio-cru-for-magsafe-iphone-15-case-2023-review/#comments Thu, 28 Sep 2023 17:10:42 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116952&preview=true&preview_id=116952 Experience top-notch protection and innovative style with the cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case.

When a new iPhone comes out, I always jump at getting the upgraded model. My phone of choice is usually the Pro Max (6.7” screen) version and I almost never keep the phone in a case. Ever since the iPhone 5S, I felt that Apple was designing the phones with standard use in mind and that the materials used to make the phones could withstand daily use.

That said, I found myself in need of protective coverage of my new iPhone 15 Pro Max when I had to install a smart security camera on my garage. I didn’t want there to be a chance that I might drop the phone while I was on a ladder since I needed it to complete the setup of the camera. So, in order to avoid that heart-stopping moment when your beloved iPhone slips from your grasp and crashes onto the unforgiving pavement, I put the new Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case on my phone.

Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case

Pricing & Availability

The cru. Protective Case has a list price of $49.99 and is available on incipio.com and Amazon. It is currently only available for the 6.7” iPhone size and has four color options — Black Camo, Navy Camo, Navy Canvas, and Brown Faux Leather.

User Experience

Incipio cases come in a simple, branded retail-style box. The front of the box has a cutout so that users can experience the materials used to make the cases first-hand. The callouts on the front of the box for the cru. for MagSafe case indicate the 8ft drop protection, built-in magnets for MacSafe compatibility, and the raised edge protection for the iPhone’s screen. The back of the box also indicates that the case is scratch resistant.

When I slid out the side of the box to pull the case out, I was immediately taken with the simple yet elegant design of it. I happened to get the Black Camo edition of the case and when I installed my phone into it, I was wearing a polo shirt that had a similar design. It was a coincidence, but something that still caught my eye. I love the minimalist color design that Incipio integrated into this case. Even though it is a camo print, it’s very subtle and can easily match up with most styles.

Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case

Installing the phone was easy. I started with the Action Button side of the iPhone and then worked the case around the other edges. The case snapped into place and I was surprised at how the phone just seemed to settle into the case. Even though it’s highly protective, the case is not bulky and it makes the somewhat slippery iPhone finish much easier to handle.

The cru. case feels great in the hand. While the edges are smooth, the back has a canvas feel to it and it makes it very easy to use the phone for standard tasks. Once the case was on my phone, I didn’t feel concerned whatsoever that my phone wasn’t protected. I have been able to charge my phone wirelessly and via MagSafe chargers. The charging port is easily accessible and the buttons still have a tactile feel to them.

Pros

  1. Easy install
  2. Great style choices
  3. Feels great in hand; very tactical and easy to grip
  4. Not bulky.
  5. Great protective qualities.

FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/fntcase-military-grade-rugged-case-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/fntcase-military-grade-rugged-case-2023-review/#respond Fri, 21 Jul 2023 17:40:57 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116116&preview=true&preview_id=116116

Maximize protection for your iPhone with the FNTCASE rugged case.

One of my most-used devices is also one of my most valuable — my iPhone 14 Pro. I use it throughout the day for work, keeping track of my health activities, and for capturing precious memories with its awesome camera system. The iPhone is more than a monetary investment and I want to make sure it’s well-protected against accidental drops, bumps, and other unforeseen mishaps. This is where rugged cases come into play – a robust shield specifically designed to safeguard your iPhone 14 Pro against even the harshest conditions. Rugged cases can be very cost-prohibitive though, so I was glad to be able to try out the FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro.

About FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro

Designed to provide unparalleled protection without compromising style or functionality, the FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case is budget-friendly armor for your iPhone 14 Pro. Crafted with precision and attention to detail, this case offers military-grade durability that can withstand even the harshest environments and unexpected accidents.

Main Features

  • 360º Rotatable Belt-Clip
  • Built-in Kickstand
  • Phone Frame with Built-in Screen Protector
  • Full-body protection
  • Scratch-proof
  • Shock absorption
  • Touch-sensitive screen protector
FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro

Pricing & Availability

The FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro is available for $23.99 from Amazon and fntcase.com. There are several colors to choose from including black, blue, brown, dark green, green, purple, and red.

User Experience

The case comes in a plain FNTCASE box. It’s all black but does have the logo on it. The back of the box has a few details on it and a sticker that indicates what case is on the inside of the box. When you open the box, you’ll find the case wrapped in plastic with pieces of foam surrounding the screen of the case.

There are some installation notes included with the case that instruct you to remove any tempered glass or screen protector before putting the phone in the case. The was a little off-putting to me because the screen protector that is part of the case is not tempered glass. It is scratch proof, but it’s just a layer of protective film — nothing more.

FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro

The case provides 360º protection for the phone. It’s not element-proof, but it does provide military-grade drop protection. While I am the type of iPhone user that always keeps a case on my phone, I usually don’t have a ‘tough’ case like this one. Installation was easy enough. I placed the screen protector side of the case on the phone first and then squeezed it into the back of the case. The case fits the iPhone 14 Pro really well and it doesn’t feel super bulky like some cases with a similar design.

The case is primarily constructed with hard plastic and while it feels sturdy and secure on my phone, it also seems a little cheap when you first examine the case. That said, the case does seem to do its primary job – protect – well.

One of the biggest issues I had with the function of the case came down to its special features — namely the stand and its compatibility with magnetic charging. I’ve become accustomed to using a PopSocket on the back of my phone and the stand can act as both a stand and a phone grip. My fingers were able to slip through the opening on the stand and it was comfortable to hold that way. Unfortunately, the stand snaps into place and it’s really difficult to pull off the back of the case when you want to use it. I ended up having to use a small screwdriver to pry the stand into the open position.

Second, I primarily charge my phone using a MagSafe compatible charger. The case is compatible with wireless charging, but not magnetic charging. I tried several times to get the magnet to connect with my MagSafe charger and it could not reach through the case’s layers. Now, the case does not claim to be magnetic charging compatible, but it was a disappointment that I couldn’t use that feature while my phone was secured in the case.

Conclusion

While the FNTCASE Military-grade Rugged Case for iPhone 14 Pro does a great job of protecting the phone, it falls short of my expectations. I have no doubt that it offers military-grade protection, but its other features — or lack thereof — are underwhelming. Since the iPhone has advanced features such as MagSafe charging, I feel that cases should provide access to those options. That’s why even though I felt the case fit the phone well and provided strong protection, this won’t be my everyday case since I can’t use the features on the phone that I prefer.

Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14 Pro Max & 14 Pro 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/woolnut-leather-case-for-iphone-14-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/woolnut-leather-case-for-iphone-14-2023-review/#respond Thu, 06 Jul 2023 18:02:15 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=115936&preview=true&preview_id=115936 Protect your iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max with this luxurious Woolnut leather case.

I’ve been a fan of Woolnut products for several years now. I love the sleek sophistication that the full-grain, premium leather accessories bring to Apple products and the protection they provide. The Leather iPhone Case was the first product I had the pleasure of trying from Woolnut and I’ve never stopped loving it. I’ve used the Leather iPhone Case ever since the iPhone X and now with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, I love it more than ever.

About Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14

Woolnut’s signature full-grain Scandinavian leather is used to craft this sleek iPhone 14 case. It features a soft microfiber lining and TPU sidewalls that provide all-around protection for the cameras and front screen. The case also includes aluminum buttons for the side and volume controls. With seamless wireless charging and a built-in magnet array, it is fully compatible with all MagSafe chargers and accessories.

Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14

Main Features

  • Full-grain leather from Scandinavia
  • Interior lined with soft microfiber
  • Aluminium buttons
  • MagSafe compatible
  • Wireless charging compatible
  • Raised edges protect cameras and screen

Pricing & Availability

The case is available from woolnut.com for $59.00 USD. There are four different color options — black, cognac, green, or grey — and it’s available for the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max. Woolnut has some products available on Amazon, but not the Leather Case for iPhone 14.

Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14

User Experience

The case comes in a Woolnut-branded box. It’s all black with the Woolnut name and product in white lettering. The image of the case is on the front and it depicts the color that is housed in the box. Some of the basic details of the case is printed on the back along with the website address. The box is reinforced and has an inner container to protect the case while it’s in transit.

The Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14 is very easy to install. As is the case with most cases, it’s easiest to start with the side that has buttons. Once that side of the phone is in place you can push the rest of the phone into place. Even though the case has a hard shell base, it’s flexible enough to be able to move the phone around easily, but it’s a secure fit.

Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14

Speaking of the fit, I feel that it’a a good design and that everything sits where it is supposed to. The buttons covers make good contact with the buttons, but I did have a little trouble sometimes with the sleep/wake button. There were a couple of times where I tapped that button and a screenshot was captured. This shouldn’t have happened because it takes a simultaneous button press of the sleep/wake button and the volume buttons to accomplish this action. I would say this button contact issue is the only problem I had with the case.

The case is indeed MagSafe compatible. I have a MagSafe charger that I use regularly and the phone didn’t have any problems attaching to that charger and the official MagSafe icon appeared on the screen when contact was made. I also use a MagSafe PopSocket with my phone and I was able to continue using it with this case.

Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14

I really enjoy the style of this case. The leather is soft, but not slick and it’s really easy to grip the phone while it’s in the case. I have the purple iPhone 14 Pro and it looks really nice with that color option. While I appreciate that Woolnut provides neutral colors, I do sort of wish they had colors that matched the iPhone color options. I really love having a purple phone and hate covering it with something other than its natural color.

Updates from previous version

The biggest difference between the current Leather iPhone Case and its previous version is the fact that the leather doesn’t wrap around 100% of the case. The bumper of the case is a firm silicone material that is not covered in leather. The buttons on the previous case are also leather covered but the current version has aluminum button covers. Also, the bottom of the case has a more traditional three-opening cutout style around the speakers and power port while the previous case had a full cutout along the bottom.

Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14

Conclusion

The Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14 offers a stylish and functional solution for protecting your device. The style is complementary to the iPhone and the high-quality vegetable-tanned leather provides a luxurious feel as well as ensuring long-lasting durability. The precise cutouts and slim design allow for easy access to all ports and buttons without adding bulk. Additionally, the microfiber lining protects your iPhone’s delicate screen from scratches. Don’t settle for anything less than excellence when upgrading your iPhone protection with the Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone 14.

Junetone Magn-Ring iPhone Case

Pricing & Availability

The iPhone case has a list price of $37.95 and is available exclusively on Amazon. It is available in four colorways — A-Purple, B-Gold, C-Glitter, or D-Black — and it is only available for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

User Experience

The packaging for the case is pretty generic. It comes in a plain white box that just says “Cellphone Case” at the top of it. The only indication of what is in the box is on the barcode. It reads “For iPhone 14 Pro Max” and “purple” as descriptors of the product. Other than that, there is no label for the brand. When you open the box, you’ll find the case in a plastic sleeve and a small card that shows the different features of the case.

Installing the phone in the case is pretty standard. If you slide the camera side of the case then it’s easy to push the phone into the other sides of the case. The case fits the iPhone 14 Pro Max really well and installing the phone or removing it from the case is an easy process.

Junetone Magn-Ring iPhone Case

The case feels really good in a user’s hands. I never felt like the case would slip out of my grip. I do have to admit that the using the Magn-Ring as a one-hand grasp option isn’t particularly comfortable. It’s not the same design as a PopSocket, which I believe was probably the inspiration for that particular feature.

The case does stay fairly clean. The flat back of the case has a sort of frosted look to it. The sides and any border that has a metallic finish does end up collecting fingerprints quite easily and I found that I had to clean those often.

The case seems durable and my phone was safe while it was protected by the case. There isn’t a large lip on the face side of the case for screen protection. There is a small one, but it’s not as pronounced as the lip around the camera system. I haven’t run into any accidental drop incidents yet, but I think the phone would be protected well if that were to happen.

The ring feature is designed to act as a stand, grip, and provide compatibility with MagSafe accessories. I can say that it does check all these boxes off. I attempted charging the phone on a MagSafe charger while it was in the case. Not only did it connect to the wireless charger, but the MagSafe icon did appear on the screen of the iPhone once it was attached to the charger. I already mentioned using the ring as a grip. It does work in this function, but it’s not very comfortable.

Junetone Magn-Ring iPhone Case

As a stand, it seems to work well with a new case. I do wonder how well the ring will support the phone as it gets more use and the hinge loosens up. My concern is that the ring wouldn’t end up holding certain angles. Also, since the edges of the ring are not covered in silicone or any other soft, protectant material, I would be cautious about how you use it on certain surfaces. You may not want to slide it around on desktops that are sensitive to scratches.

Conclusion

The Juntone 360 Magn-Ring iPhone Case is a game-changer in terms of both style and functionality. With its sleek design and innovative magnetic ring, this case offers users a secure grip and convenient hands-free experience. Additionally, the durable construction ensures reliable protection for your iPhone against accidental drops and scratches. Whether you are an active individual or simply looking to enhance your smartphone experience, the Juntone 360 Magn-Ring iPhone Case is definitely worth considering.

Ever since my first iPhone fell from my hands and collided with a hard tile floor in a mall, I have been fanatical about putting my valuable tech devices in protective cases. Apple has come leaps and bounds from the first generation iPhones and they use much more robust materials in their products than they did back then. That said, accidents do happen and I just don’t like to take any chances.

Fortunately, cases come in all kinds of styles and materials these days and they are designed to not only protect, but also to add luxury and personalization to your devices. This is why I sought out the Woolnut Leather Case for AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) when I got my newest Apple earbuds. I wanted something that set my AirPods case apart from everyone else.

Pricing & Availability

The Leather Case for AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) has a list price of $39.90. It comes in four different color ways – black, cognac, green, and grey. It’s currently only available through woolnut.com. Other versions of the case are available on Amazon so this option may be available there as well at some point.

User Experience

The Woolnut Leather Case for AirPods Pro comes in Woolnut’s classic retail box. The box features a magnetic closure, which easily opens on the side. The case comes in two pieces and does not come with any instructions for installation.

It is pretty self-explanatory, but one thing I found different from other cases I’ve used is that the top piece has a small 3M adhesive strip that helps to hold it in place. I would recommend cleaning the charging case to ensure the adhesive sticks the best it can. This little strip is a big difficult to get a hold of and I even had to use a small pair of tweezers to grab the tab of the strip.

The bottom piece of the case slides onto the bottom half of the charging case and stays securely in place. While the case does not move at all, it’s also not a permanent installation. It can be removed.

The bottom of the Woolnut case has three cutouts – one for the charging port, one for the speaker, and one for the vent hole. They are perfectly aligned as is the hold on the side for the lanyard loop. I have the black and the grey versions of this case and I chose to use the grey one. I really like the color Woolnut chose because it blends very nicely with the chrome pieces on the charging case.

Woolnut Leather Case for AirPods Pro (2nd Gen)

There is a cut out on the front of the case to show off the LED status light and the “Woolnut” logo on the back is directly over the pairing/reset button on the back of the AirPod charging case. You can feel a softer spot on the case that allows you to press that pairing button through the case.

One of my favorite features of the 2nd Generation AirPods Pro is the fact that they are MagSafe compatible. Unfortunately, this does not allow that feature to be used. The case will charge wirelessly on any Qi-compatible charger, but it won’t adhere to a magnetic charging base. Not all AirPods Pro cases are like that.

I do really enjoy the style of this case. It’s classy and instantly dresses up the look of the charging case. The leather case is also 100% functional for the AirPods’ Charging Case, with the exception of the MagSafe feature.

Woolnut Leather Case for AirPods Pro (2nd Gen)

Conclusion

The Woolnut Leather Case for AirPods Pro is a stylish and practical accessory that enhances the protection of your valuable earbuds. Its sleek design, premium materials, and attention to detail make it a standout option among other cases on the market. The soft leather provides a comfortable grip while also protecting against scratches and drops.

It’s easy to install and remove, giving you quick access to your AirPods when you need them most. If you’re looking for a high-quality case that will keep your AirPods Pro safe and looking great, consider an upgrade to the Leather Case for AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) from Woolnut.

Over the years, iPhones have become increasingly popular for both personal and business use due to their sleek design, intuitive interface, and powerful capabilities. DXPAD Slim Magnetic iPhone 14 Case

User Experience

The DXPAD Slim Magnetic iPhone 14 Case arrived in a simple plastic box. It’s the type container that is designed to be stored on a retail shelf so it has a hanger on the top of it. There isn’t much to the packaging and only a simple cardboard insert is included. This cardboard includes the model of iPhone on it so that the consumer can identify the correct size case from afar.

I got this case to have a minimalist case available for my phone. I typically don’t keep a case on my phone 24/7 but I like to have one for special events and when I travel. That said, I really like to keep the case form to a minimum while maximizing the function. And, one of the main functions I like to make sure a case has these days is Mag Safe technology. The DXPAD case checked both of these main requirements for me.

The case is clear, which is really nice in my opinion because that means you can see the natural finish of the iPhone through it. I really like the outlined frame and how it is accentuated by black (and orange around the camera system). I also really appreciate the metal-reinforced button covers and frame around the camera system.

DXPAD Slim Magnetic iPhone 14 Case

The case was easy to install and everything lined up well. The Mag Safe functionality of the case is what I was hoping for, too. There are some cases that claim to be ‘MagSafe’ compatible, but all that means is that the case is thin enough for the MagSafe properties of the phone to be functional. I’ve found that these cases aren’t nearly as reliable as the cases that actually have magnets embedded in them. Fortunately the DXPAD case is one of the latter types of cases and I’ve not had any issues with the case adhering to mounts or chargers.

I will point out that the black plastic/silicone frame scratches up fairly easily. Also, there are two layers of film (one on the outside and one on the inside) that should be removed before you start using the case. If you don’t know the film is there, it can make the case look dingy and as if it were used. I will also say that the case attracts fingerprints like crazy. Other than that it seems to do its job quite well as a protective case.

Conclusion

The DXPAD Magnetic Slim Clear Case for iPhone 14 is an excellent choice if you want to protect your phone while maintaining a slim and professional look. It is the perfect combination of style and protection, with its sleek design, anti-scratch technology, and durable materials. Additionally, it is easy to install and promises maximum compatibility with wireless chargers. Overall, this phone case offers a great value for the money and will provide you with all the protection and convenience you need for your device.

Catalyst Influence iPhone 14 Pro Max Case 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/catalyst-influence-iphone-14-pro-max-case-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/catalyst-influence-iphone-14-pro-max-case-2022-review/#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2022 17:43:38 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=112637

Catalyst provides rugged protection without the bulk!

As the prices of iPhones edge further into the obscene, the consequences of a drop, tumble, spill, ding, screen crack, etc. increase. Even with Apple Care+ coverage, I dare not tempt fate by carrying my phone sans case with four young kids, an energetic dog, and for the D&D fans, for the chance of rolling a Nat 1 that day. Despite the hype of releasing new Apple tech each September, I think I enjoy the second round of excitement when I get to review/explore new tech from trusted manufacturers.

I have tested many cases over the years and continue to fall back to the tried and true Catalyst cases. I met the Catalyst team at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2016 and dared to try something new with my iPhone 6s Plus. After a few return visits to Las Vegas for CES, watching the case drop competitions, and reviewing cases for the iPhone 7, 8, X, 11, 12, and 13 versions personally, I was excited to evaluate the latest flagship protector, the Catalyst Influence iPhone 14 Pro Max Case.

UNBOXING

The catalyst influence iPhone 14 Pro Max case (2022 6.7” Pro) arrived in a classy 4 inches wide by 7 1/4 inches tall by 11 inches thick hanging style retail package. Divided into an outer slip cover, and an inner base layer, I was impressed with the overall design. Starting with the outer slipcover, you will immediately notice the raised, glossy, image of the upper half of the phone case, the raised bezels of the camera, and an orange-accented region describing the “patented rotating mute switch.”

For those who have never utilized a catalyst phone case before, the volume toggle is likely the best on the market. Below the photo-quality image, you will find the Influence name, iPhone size/compatibility, an image of the phone dropping onto a lower edge, and an image of someone holding the phone. I liked the bar graphs comparing standard drop-proof data and louder sound between non-catalyst and catalyst cases. The cover provided the 2.5x higher drop proof (3M/10Ft-Mil STD-810G) rating and “Up to 30% Louder Sound” thanks to the forward-facing speakers.

Catalyst Influence iPhone 14 Pro Max Case

The right side panel provided a variety of #Catalyst case social media icons, iPhone 2022 6.7” Pro compatibility, and a QR code for added information. The left side panel provided a slightly raised, glossy image of the volume toggle, volume up/down buttons, and a life-size image of the 0.45”/11.59mm thickness. Although it does not seem like much of an addition, the ability to visualize the thinness of the case adds a degree of awareness to the packaging.

The rear panel provided a helpful labeled diagram of the iPhone 14 Pro Max case along the top (fingerprint-free background, ultra slim design, easy-to-press buttons, patented rotating mute switch, forward audio technologymore explicitearer calls, anti-drop lanyard (tested to 10kg), anti-slip textured grip, raised edge protects screen/camera, and 4 corner anti-drop attachment system) and a text-heavy lower segment that detailed the above features in multiple languages.

The raised, glossy image successfully showcased a top-down image of the empty case, the raised bezels, and the wrist lanyard. Overall, I appreciated the vibrant colors, the visual appeal, the layout/design, and the quality of the images. It is no wonder that the company has won several design awards.

The inner box was divided into an upper blue segment with a bold white company name/logo, the www.catalystcase.com website, and a 5G and Wireless charging logo, and a lower tan cardboard segment. The lower section advertised a variety of Crux accessories that could be installed onto the four corner attachment points (shoulder strap, lanyard, ring stand, and carabiner/extender), a screen protector, and options for Apple Watch, AirPods, Air Tag, and iPad.

Personally, I wish this segment was a bit more colorful. Having tested various Crux accessories, the modular, add-on feature of the case may be one of the most important aspects of the design.   For additional information, you can scan the QR code along the bottom corner of the inner cover or along the top edge of the rear panel. Although it may be important to some, I felt that the inclusion of “Printed with Soy Ink” logo and the large segments devoted to recycling may have been a bit much. However, I greatly appreciate the attempts at improving the footprint.

INSTALLATION/UTILITY

I opened the box, removed the 1.1-ounce, 3 3/8 inches wide by 6 5/8 inches tall by 7/8 inches thick case, and the 0.1-ounce wrist lanyard. The lanyard had a thin, looped, 2 1/8 inches long attachment string, a 5/8 inches tall by 3/8 inches wide neck segment with etched catalyst name, and a 6 1/2 inches long by 1/4 inches looped nylon cord with 3/16 inches tall by 5/8 inches wide slider with etched catalyst logo.

The smoky black, semi-transparent inner surface of the catalyst iPhone Influence case provided a subtle contrast to the dark black side plastic accents. The right side of the case (volume side) provided a 5/16 inches diameter volume mute switch and dual 7/16 inches long by ~3/32 inches wide raised, ribbed volume buttons. I liked the flat ribbed edge and the hexagonal shape that the case embodied.

Instead of rounded side/top panels, the angled sides added a degree of grip to the overall design. The opposite side panel provided an 11/16 inches long by ~3/32 inches wide power button and an etched name/logo along the bottom of the panel. Like the opposite side panel, the top, bottom, and power button sides utilized the angled ribbed design for added grip.

Catalyst Influence iPhone 14 Pro Max Case

The bottom edge contained an ~15/32 inches wide by 1/4 inches tall lightning cutout, plus a 1/16 inches diameter speaker cutout on the flat segment and dual 9/16 inches long by 1/16 inches tall speaker ports on the front slanted segment. To complement the side/top panels, you will find four 3/16 inches wide by 1/16 inches tall Crux attachment ports on the front/back slanted side segments. The front face added a front screen bezel, while the rear slanted segment raised slightly above the frosted rear plastic panel. The top edge of the rear panel provided the 1 1/2 inches wide by 1 9/16 inches tall camera cutout and slightly raised protective camera bezel.

To install the iPhone 14 Pro Max into the case, I aligned the volume/mute toggle side into the case, pressed the top right corner of the phone into the case, then the top edge, the power side, and lastly the bottom edge of the phone. You will note that the camera cutout, volume toggle rotation switch, lower lightning port, and speakers aligned appropriately with the phone hardware.

I slid the thin segment of the wrist lanyard into the lower right CRUX attachment point and then the thick loop into the smaller loop. With the lanyard/case installed, the 9.3-ounce phone/case combo slid comfortably into my Nite-Ize XXL Clip Case Sideways Universal Rugged Holster. I was able to easily slide the case into the holster, remove it, navigate the phone features, place it face down on the table, and to set it face up as well. The raised screen edge added protection against glancing blows and raised the screen away from the surface when face down. Similarly, the camera bezel added a degree of protection when face up.

As noted above, the three main features that catalyze the experience are the volume toggle, Crux attachment points, and forward-facing speakers. The mute toggle switch is far superior to many case manufacturers who employ a narrow window for the toggle. Instead, the rotating switch is easy to use, easy to access, and is not limited by chubby fingers. The lightning port accommodated every one of the cables that I tried, including several bulkier, non-Apple cables.

The forward-facing speakers provided enhanced sound and directed a bulk of the experience forward and away from the screen. When combined with the ring stand, the forward-facing speakers helped create a pseudo-mini-theater. Lastly, as an additional method to charge your phone, the thin opaque backing plate will allow you to charge the phone wirelessly.

SUMMARY

Even though I have not had any major drops with my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I held the phone 1 foot from my hardwood floor and dropped the case/phone onto each corner. The phone dropped several times and then landed either on the front or back. I found no damage to the case or to the phone after a total of 4 drops.

I often utilize the wrist lanyard to prevent unexpected drops. I learned this lesson after one of my kids accidentally swiped an older iPhone off of the kitchen table. Luckily, the Catalyst cases have successfully averted crisis multiple times over the past few years; I am thankful for the diligent efforts of the R&D team. The proof of the protection can be seen in the 20 foot drop test at CES for the iPhone XR.

Catalyst Influence iPhone 14 Pro Max Case

I am a fan of the Catalyst display technique, even if I disagreed with the large amount of space devoted to environmental awareness. The imagery, the display, the multi-lingual approach, and the presence/feel, exuded a customer-centric focus. I loved the weight, the angled edge shape, the grippy sides, the volume toggle, the forward-facing speakers, the lighting cutout port, the screen bezel, the camera bezel, the thin backing for wireless charging, and the option to add on Crux accessories. As a former bulky case, armor-favoring iPhone user, I have not regretted slipping into something a lot more comfortable.

Incipio Duo for MagSafe iPhone 14 Case 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/incipio-duo-for-magsafe-iphone-14-case-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/incipio-duo-for-magsafe-iphone-14-case-2022-review/#respond Wed, 02 Nov 2022 17:47:58 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=112625&preview=true&preview_id=112625 Duo for MagSafe iPhone 14 Case is a must-have accessory for daily use.

This time last year, I reviewed a case for my iPhone 13 Pro from Incipio called the Duo. This dual-layer case provided sufficient protection for my phone, but was lacking the MagSafe functionality that I desired. I mentioned in that review that Incipio made another version of the case that was MagSafe compatible. I had the chance to test it out with an iPhone 14 Pro Max with this year’s case releases.

Details

The Duo for MagSafe case takes the best-selling Duo case and adds built-in magnets so that it can be used with Apple’s MagSafe chargers and accessories. Duo for MagSafe combines a minimalistic design — a two-piece protective case — with maximum protection — drop-protection up to 12 feet. The case also features an antimicrobial treatment that prevents 99.9% of surface bacteria. The Duo for MagSafe works with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 models.

Incipio Duo for MagSafe iPhone 14 Case

  • 12 ft drop tested
  • Designed for Use With The MagSafe Ecosystem of Accessories
  • Made from recycled materials
  • Two-Piece Construction
  • Impact Struts protection tech reduces impact force
  • Raised Edge Screen Protection
  • Soft-touch Coating
  • Antimicrobial Defense
  • Scratch Resistant
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • 5G & Wireless-charging Compatible
  • Recycled Packaging

User Impressions

The Duo for MagSafe comes in a simple, clean retail box with Incipio branding on it. The front of the box has a transparent window so users can view the product inside. There are a few details about the phone included (i.e. 12 ft. drop tested, raised edge protects the screen, etc.) along with the “Made with Recycled Material” emblem at the bottom.

Incipio Duo for MagSafe iPhone 14 Case

One of the other features of the package I noticed was the sticker on the top right-hand corner that reads, “Buy this accessory and plant a tree.” This seems to go along with Incipio’s sustainability program which includes their recycling program and using recycled materials.

As the name suggests, the Duo for MagSafe is a two-layer case. The inner layer is pliable and easily wraps around the phone while the outer layer is a harder shell that snaps into place around the inner wrap. The hard shell case does have a soft feel to it which makes it easy to grip. The Duo for MagSafe iPhone 14 Case seems to protect the phone well and it has a clean, classy look.

Incipio Duo for MagSafe iPhone 14 Case

In testing the case with a MagSafe charger, I’m happy to say that the phone did not fall off the charger like the other Duo case does. The built-in magnets in the Duo for MagSafe case do a good job of holding the case securely on the charging surface and allows the phone to charge while it is in place.

Conclusion

There are lots of cases to choose from out there but the sleek, minimalist design of the Duo for MagSafe makes it a frontrunner in my mind. The case is easy to grip and it’s very easy to install the phone into it. It’s a great value for what you get.

Casely Full Bloom & Black on Black Bold iPhone 14 Cases

User Impressions

Because the Black on Black case is part of the Bold Collection, I expected the case to be heavier than other standard cases. While it is a little heavier, it doesn’t feel bulky at all. In fact, the Black on Black case is actually a bit slimmer than other Casely Bold cases I’ve used in the past. The lip around the camera system is reinforced and raised just enough to make a difference for the iPhone 14 camera. Even though it’s a little thicker than other cases, the case is very easy to handle. The grip on the sides really makes the difference for handling.

The Black on Black case does a great job of protecting the iPhone 14. There are so many cases that don’t succeed at being both protective and minimalist, but this case does a great job of it. In addition to the raised area for the camera, the case also has a raised lip to protect the screen from shattering. The Black on Black case does a great job of protecting without being bulky or cumbersome.

Full Bloom | Navy Floral Case

The Full Bloom case is a beautiful, functional phone case that will protect your device in style. The case features two layers of polycarbonate backing, TPU sides, and have the added layer of protection in the form of 12mm raised edges along with a vibrant floral design.

This phone case is the perfect way to show off your personality and style, while also protecting your investment. The Casely full bloom case is a must-have for anyone who wants to make a statement with their phone case.

User Impressions

While the Full Bloom case has standard protective features for a case, its most stand-out feature is its beautiful finish. The case is a simple plastic-feel case and is very flexible. There is an outline of the built-in magnet on the inside of the case and there is a reinforced, raised bezel around the camera system. The buttons are easy to push on both the cases and the cutouts all line up properly on the iPhone.

Casely Full Bloom & Black on Black Bold iPhone 14 Cases

Given that the Full Bloom case is a standard wrap-around case, it does provide full-coverage protection with its one-piece design. It’s lightweight which makes the phone comfortable to hold. I never felt as though the phone would call out of my hands and I was still able to charge the phone wirelessly with the case on it.

Pricing & Availability

The Full Bloom case is available for $30 and the Black on Black case is listed at $40 for any iPhone 14 model. At the time of publishing, neither of the cases are available for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max iPhone models according to getcasely.com.

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/iphone-14-cases-by-nomad-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/iphone-14-cases-by-nomad-2022-review/#respond Tue, 20 Sep 2022 18:27:52 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=111985&preview=true&preview_id=111985

The iPhone 14 Collection from NOMAD has a case for everyone.

Two weeks ago, Apple announced the upcoming arrival of their newest smartphone series — the iPhone 14. Just a few days ago, many fans of the product acquired their new phones either by pre-order shipment or in-store. Naturally, with new phones come new case options. NOMAD, a company that strives to build products that ensure smartphones are available wherever, whenever you need them, released their iPhone 14 Collection and we’ve been lucky enough to try out some of the cases with our new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

Modern Leather Case

The Modern Leather Case is designed to elevate the look and feel of your iPhone while offering rugged protection. It’s built with full-grain sustainably sourced leather or vegetable-tanned Horween Leather. The case will develop a natural patina over time based on daily use such as the oils from a person’s hands.

This case has 10-foot drop protection and lanyard attachment points. It is MagSafe and wireless charging compatible. The Modern Leather case comes in four different color options for the full-grain leather version — Black, Brown, English Tan, and Natural — or two color options for the Horween Leather version — Black or Rustic Brown. Both versions are available for the iPhone 14/14 Plus/14 Pro/14 Pro Max.

The Modern Leather Case has a list price of $49.95 (full grain, leather) or $69.95 (Horween leather).

My Thoughts about the Case

One of the things that immediately caught my eye with the Modern Leather Case was that the leather covers the back of the case. The bumper is rubber TPE and the frame is polycarbonate. This is a stark difference in look from the Apple Leather cases, which has the exterior 100% wrapped in leather.

The case has a pronounced lip around the camera system for protection. Given the size of the camera system, I was grateful for this added protection. The inside of the case is lined with microfiber, which adds protection to the matte glass back of the iPhone.

The case is remarkably well made. While you can see where the materials meet, you don’t see any evidence of any element pulling away from the case. I’ve seen that with lesser-made cases in the past. Nomad brings a higher level of craftsmanship to their products than some of their competitors — and you can really see that with the Modern Leather Case.

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD

I really like that the buttons are covered by the case and that you can still feel the buttons beneath that covering. Everything on the case lines up perfectly with the iPhone. I really LOVE the fit of this case.

When my iPhone 14 Pro arrived, I slapped it into a case immediately. It’s a reflex for me. The case I chose was protective, but it made the phone feel HUGE. My previous iPhone was the 12 Pro, which isn’t much different than the 14 Pro size-wise. But the first case I used made it feel heavy and bulky. The Modern Leather Case fits the phone so well that it feels good in my hands again.

As the specs state, the case is compatible with MagSafe accessories. When MagSafe became a charging standard for the iPhone I found there were some cases that claimed to be MagSafe compatible but they didn’t actually contain magnets. Those cases relied on the magnet inside the iPhone for the MagSafe connection.

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD

While this isn’t exactly incorrect, I’ve found that those cases don’t have a very secure hold to MagSafe accessories. I’ve had phones pop off of mounts in cars and seen them slide off of chargers and dent desks. That said, I try to use the cases that have built-in magnets to pair with the iPhone’s magnet.

Nomad included ‘nickel-plated neodymium magnets’ in the description of the Modern Leather Case so, I know one is built into the case. However, if that wasn’t included, the easiest test to try is just to place the empty case on a MagSafe accessory and see if it sticks. If it falls right off, you can assume there is no built-in magnet. Fortunately, the Modern Leather Case passed the test.

This is a great case. It’s tough and it looks professional, but casual at the same time. It’s a great all-around case.

Modern Leather Folio

The Modern Leather Folio takes the Modern Leather Case and adds a place for users to store cards and cash along with their phone. This case has the same basic features as the Modern Leather case and is even offered in the same finishes — full grain leather or Horween Leather.

The folio is only available in black or brown (Rustic Brown for the Horween Leather version) color options and while the full grain leather option is available for all iPhone 14 models, the Horween Leather version is only available for the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max models.

This folio-style case has a wrap-around screen cover that encloses the phone in the case like the cover of a book. There is a detachable magnetic closure included with the case, which is used to keep the cover closed securely.

The Modern Folio Case has a list price of $59.95 (full grain, leather) or $79.95 (Horween leather).

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD

My Thoughts about the Case

Because this case is essentially the Modern Leather Case with a cover, my experience with the Leather Folio was very similar to the Leather Case. I only had the Horween version to look at and I must say that next to the standard leather option, the Horween appears much richer. The Rustic Brown (the color I had) is remarkably lovely and very exclusive-looking.

I tried to figure out how to install the magnetic clasp without viewing the installation video and I was stumped. There is a cut-out slot along the seam of the cover that you can push the magnetic closure through from inside the cash pocket. It’s a great design feature because unless you know it’s there, the slot is nearly invisible. The closure was easy to install and I never felt that it was going to fall out of its slot.

Just l like the Modern Leather Case, the Folio fits the iPhone like a glove and really suits it well. This case is also MagSafe compatible and it passed my test with flying colors. I would consider this case a step up from the Modern Leather Case as it has the added feature of the folio cover. It’s designed well and looks amazing. I would recommend this for anyone who prefers to only carry their phone instead of a wallet.

Sport Case

The Sport Case rounds out the iPhone 14 case offerings from Nomad that we were able to review hands-on. There is also a Rugged Case option, but since we did not have the opportunity to test it out in person, I’m not going to provide a detailed account of it. The Sport Case, however, is as equally remarkable as its cousin cases — the Modern Leather Case and Modern Leather Folio.

The Sport Case is very similar in design and style to the Modern Leather Case but there are some differences between the two in their feature sets. The Sport Case has unique grip bumpers that are indented to accommodate a human hand hold. This case has a 6-foot drop protection rating and a high-gloss backplate.

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD

The Sport Case has the same polycarbonate frame as the Modern Leather Case and the Leather Folio, but it features a PET backplate as opposed to the leather covering. The buttons are anodized aluminum and are colored to match the backplate. This case has four color options — Black, Lunar Gray, Ash Green, and Marine Blue — that take their inspiration from the California coastline. It is available for all iPhone 14 models and has a list price of $39.95.

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD

My Thoughts about the Case

The Sport Case quickly became my favorite Nomad case. The Leather cases are striking, but I am more of an ‘everyday’ case type person — and that is exactly who the Sport Case is designed for. The case fits just as well as the Modern Leather Case and I love the pale blue color of the backplate.

I typically shy away from slick cases and the high-gloss backplate is definitely slick. But, the unique grippy bumper helps provide added security when you hold the phone. It does only have 6-foot drop protection instead of the 10-foot drop protection that the leather cases provide, but for everyday use, 6-foot is typically all I need. The buttons are very tactile and the case lines up perfectly with the ports, speakers, and other openings on the phone.

If someone asked me for my recommendation, I would pick the Sport Case for everyday use.

iPhone 14 Cases by NOMAD

Conclusion

Nomad has a case for everyone and for every occasion. They are premium cases that feature high-quality materials. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of the options that NOMAD has in their iPhone 14 Case Collection.

Pitaka Flipbook Case for iPad 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/pitaka-flipbook-case-for-ipad-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/pitaka-flipbook-case-for-ipad-2022-review/#comments Wed, 31 Aug 2022 18:55:17 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=111574&preview=true&preview_id=111574

The case has a great concept, but design discrepancies make it harder to type on the keyboard.

UPDATE

After this review was published, Pitaka let us know that part of our installation of the case was incorrect. The brace piece on the back should be lined up with the spine of the Magic Keyboard case. When it is, the case is not top-heavy. I made this adjustment and found the case to be much more manageable. There is an instructional video that shows the proper way to place the case on Pitaka’s YouTube channel which is very helpful. They also let us know that the flap that goes over the camera, can be molded so that it has a better closure by pressing/holding for 30-60 minutes.

Ever since I got my first iPad in 2011, it’s been an essential device for me. I recently upgraded to a 4th Gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard. I like to make sure that my devices will be around for as long as possible. The Magic Keyboard does a good job of protecting the tablet, but when it comes to carrying the iPad, it’s nice to have a case for it. Cases can provide a bit of extra grip, making it less likely that you’ll drop your iPad.

About Pitaka’s Flipbook Case for iPad

The Pitaka case is designed to be easy to use and look like a book. It flips open with your iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard. There is no unzipping or removing of case parts necessary to use the case. When you are done using your iPad, you simply shut the case and go. In addition to your iPad, the Flipbook Case can also carry your everyday essential elements such as your smartphone and key fob.

The Flipbook Case is woven from leather and Carbitex CX6® Carbon Fiber. This provides a comfortable, durable material to carry around. The sleeve offers protection as well as exceptional comfort. The case uses strong, PU gel pads that are reusable (up to 100 times). The pads can handle 3kg of pull-off force but will not leave a single mark on your Magic Keyboard. The case features a classic business style that is ideal for most professional settings.

User Experience

One of the first things I noticed about this product is its tagline. “Your next iPad bag is not a bag.” It goes right along with the iPad marketing tag, “Your next computer is not a computer.” I thought it was a clever way to tie the two products together. The Flipbook comes packaged in a Pitaka-branded box. When you open the inside, you’ll find the case wrapped up with a cardboard mock-up that is meant to represent the size of an iPad.

The case wraps perfectly around the Magic Keyboard case, which provides support for the Flipbook. Installation wasn’t particularly difficult, but it does take patience. I would compare it to the same process are installing a screen protector on a phone. You have to carefully remove the protective film from the adhesive strips and that part can be hard to get started.

Once you get the film peeled off, you have to line up the case frame with the Magic Keyboard. I started with the side that has the fold on it. I do want to note that I installed the Flipbook while the iPad was not in the keyboard case. I just thought it would be easier if the case was a little lighter.

Pitaka Flipbook Case for iPad

I also made sure to wipe the back of the Magic Keyboard off before attempting to apply the adhesive strips that are attached to the Flipbook. I used an alcohol wipe, but a simple damp cloth would get the job done, too. The point is to wipe any dust or dirt off of the surface so the adhesive has the best possible place to attach.

Once I lined up the Flipbook with the Magic Keyboard I simply let gravity pull the two together. I flipped the keyboard over and repeated the process with the backside. After I applied both sides of the Flipbook, I found that the first side — the side with the pocket — needed to be moved a little. So, I pulled it off the keyboard, realigned it, and stuck it back down. It was definitely stuck on the keyboard well but the adhesive was able to stick to the surface again with no problem.

Once I had the Flipbook installed I put my iPad into the keyboard and took a good look at the product. The Flipbook looks really good with the Magic Keyboard. I have the black Flipbook and it truly looks awesome with my Space Gray iPad and Magic Keyboard. I would assume the white version would look just slick.

Pitaka Flipbook Case for iPad

The magnetic handles made it very easy to carry the iPad because they were naturally stuck together. I tried to open the case while I was still holding it — like you would if you have a folio briefcase and you were going to pull paperwork from it. Just like the description states, the Flipbook makes it very easy to pull the Magic Keyboard open and position it for work. I was very impressed with that operation as it is something I always find a little tricky with the iPad and Magic Keyboard.

As much as I LOVE the concept of this case, there are a couple of design deficiencies that I noticed. The first one is that the camera cover falls open very easily. It seems that there is a little bit of a magnet in it because you can press it closed when the iPad is in the keyboard case, but it can easily be jostled open with a shake or even a simple tap in the right place on the case.

I love that Pitaka put this there because it makes it possible to use the back camera, but it would be nice if there was a better way to secure it so that it is more protective when the camera doesn’t need to be used.

Pitaka Flipbook Case for iPad

The camera cover is a very minor issue but the other issue I had with the design/operation of the case was that is causes the Magic Keyboard/iPad to be top-heavy. When I opened the keyboard and set it on my desk, I noticed that the base of the keyboard popped up from the desktop.

If you are familiar with iPad accessories, you will remember the first Smart Keyboard. It was released in 2015 and while it added great functionality to the iPad, it too was top-heavy. The base of the keyboard was very light in comparison to the stand that the iPad was attached to.

As much as I adored the Smart Keyboard, it was hard for me to use because I was constantly compensating for the weight issue. It also meant that it was easiest for me to use the iPad when I had a hard surface to set it on. So, that limited my use of the iPad.

Pitaka Flipbook Case for iPad

Even though the Magic Keyboard has been criticized for its overall weight, I have found it to be perfectly balanced and it’s made it possible for me to use my iPad more than ever before because I’m no longer limited to the surfaces I can use it on. That is until I applied the Flipbook to the Magic Keyboard. Now, I’m fighting the balance issue again — even while it is sitting on my desk.

I have actually noticed that my forearms have small muscle cramps in them because I am having to press down slightly while I type just to keep the entire kit from moving on me. I have provided pictures that show how much the wrist rests on the Magic Keyboard elevate. At the highest point, it’s almost one inch. I slid my Apple Pencil beneath the case to show the amount of space that is between the case and the surface of my desk.

Because this issue hinders my use of the iPad, it is a dealbreaker for me and that truly upsets me because the concept of the case and its main operation — the enhanced carrying function of the iPad — is fantastic.

Pitaka Flipbook Case for iPad

Conclusion

The Flipbook is a great idea but does have a design flaw that interrupts the standard use of the iPad for me. I love the materials that are used to make the Flipbook and how it looks. I feel like it’s a head-turner and would get noticed by a lot of people. It’s unfortunate that it causes the iPad and Magic Keyboard to be top-heavy. I believe the pocket is what makes the weight difference so great. With that in mind, perhaps a variation on the case could be made that has the pocket as optional.

iVoler Nintendo Switch Case 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/ivoler-nintendo-switch-case-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/ivoler-nintendo-switch-case-2022-review/#respond Mon, 13 Jun 2022 17:03:47 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=110020

iVoler Nintendo Switch Case provides upgraded portable protection. Switch it up a bit.

Despite my love for the home Nintendo system, I truly fell in love with the ability to play Action/RPG/Sports/Puzzlers/Platformers and more after my parents gifted me with my first portable gaming system.  I vividly remember that Easter Sunday morning when I found an original GameBoy hiding under fake grass within my Easter basket.

I am not sure that my parents realize the strength of the memory and the power of the gift.  Over time, I moved through several portable systems, including various GameBoy/Color/DS/3DS/XL systems, GameGear, PSP/PSP Vita, and most recently to the Nintendo Switch.  I have not yet adopted the OLED Switch, but will likely expand into the Switch Pro, Switch 2, or whatever name the company assumes in the future.

I typically carry the original version of the PowerA Everywhere Nintendo Switch Messenger Bag and love the ability to remove the handheld clamshell case for additional portability. Unfortunately, the setup lacked storage for game carts and did not work well for my needs.  The newer version of the PowerA Everywhere bag had a modified neoprene case with game cart slots but did not have a hard-protected shell like the original clamshell case.

Additionally, the overall design of the newer Nintendo Switch Case was not as good as the original.  So, I looked for other options that would provide a hard shell case, game cart storage, and the ability to slide into the Messenger Bag.

iVoler Nintendo Switch Case

The iVoler Nintendo Switch Case arrived in a 6 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches thick hanging style package.  The clean white cover panel provided the company/product name along the top of the panel, an attractive oblique image of the case, two extra pairs of joy-cons, power cables, and slots for ten other games.  I liked the red/blue color against the pure white backdrop and felt that the cover presented the product well.

The red-colored top/bottom panels contrasted nicely against the white cover and the red/white back panel.  The top panel provided the cardboard hanging tab and the iVoler name in white font.  The bottom panel listed product manufacturing labels, address information, and a choking warning for kids below three.

The rear panel of the Nintendo Switch Case capitalized on the red/white color scheme and listed four product-specific features:

  1. Secure storage for Switch/OLED Console and accessories (Joy-Cons, HDMI cable, ten carts, Joy-Con straps, earbuds, charging cable, slim power bank.
  2. Durable 1680 denier and EVA hard shell.
  3. Special design with wrist rope.
  4. Two hard corner indents for added protection.

Lastly, the panel provided contact email (support@ivoler.com) and website addresses along the bottom of the panel (www.ivoler.com/support).

I slid the 10 3/8 inches long by 5 1/4 inches tall by 2 1/8 inches tall black iVoler Nintendo Switch Case from the outer packaging and evaluated the outer nylon surface.  The thatched material provided a pleasing touch-feel and did not show scuffs, marring, scratches, lint, or fingerprints.  Outside of the two raised corners on the back panel, the surface had no other identifying marks.

The thick leather hinge segment measured 11/16 inches by 6 9/16 inches long and had clean stitching along both ends of the section. To access the inner aspects of the cover, I gripped one of the two chromed metallic zippers and pulled the zipper around the 21 1/4 inches long black zipper.  Each end of the zipper abutted against the hinge segment.

I was impressed with the smooth action of the zipping/unzipping mechanism but would have preferred for the zipper to be a water-resistant type instead of a standard zipper.  However, I do understand the financial burdens of the more advanced and more expensive style of zippers.

The upper 9 5/8inches wide by 4 1/8 inches tall by 3/4 inches thick compartment of the Nintendo Switch Case had a 3/8 inches thick elastic band atop a mesh lining.  The retention mesh measured 9 5/8 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches tall and did a great job at holding items within the compartment.  The lower 9 5/8 inches wide by 4 1/8 inches tall segment had a front segment that was 3/4 inches deep and a corner segment that was 1 1/16 inches deep.

The element was topped by a 6 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/8 inches tall by 1/8 inches thick screen protector with two rows of five elastic game card retention straps.  The first and fifth slots measured 1 1/4 inches wide, while the middle three segments measured 1 1/8 inches wide.  Each of the elastic bands measured 1-inch tall and allowed space above the strap for the game cards.

The elastic was easy to manipulate and securely retained the games.  Like the upper segment, the lower segment and undersurface of the game card holder were lined by soft black felt material.  Lastly, you will find a 3/4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches long hook segment of Velcro attached to the lower front rim of the lower section; the velcro could connect to the small hoop segment at the bottom edge of the game card flap.

I undid the Velcro attachment to the game card flap and lifted the flap.  I placed my Nintendo Switch into the lower segment and was pleased with the shoulder button cutouts and the soft inner felt.  The compartment proved to be optimized for the Nintendo Switch and held the device securely. I laid the padded game card flap over the Switch screen and was pleased that the padding doubled as a screen protector against the items stored in the upper segment.

I added a short USB-C to USB-C cable, a screen protector, earbuds, and a thin GaN USB-C charger to the upper section, and found that I could include a small plastic game card holder with additional games.  I lowered the top section onto the bottom section and then zipped the device closed. I affixed the included chrome swivel bolt snap to the ring on the spine, and evaluated the 1/2 inches wide by 6 1/4 inches tall wrist lanyard. I was pleased with the inclusion and felt it enhanced the overall portability.

iVoler Nintendo Switch Case

I have never dropped my Switch inside or outside of a case, and I have no interest in tempting fate by purposefully dropping it and losing any data. I have noticed the iVoler Nintendo Switch Case protected the joy-cons and the screen protector added a bit of relief beyond simply placing the Switch into a bag. I have seen a few of my children’s friends place their Switches into a backpack, only to complain/mention joy-con drift at a later time. From Torchlight to Diablo to Metroid to MarioKart, to Zelda to Smash, I have played countless hours and would hate to lose my Switch.

I have carried the iVoler Nintendo Switch Case over the last week and have added this to my PowerA bag. I have zipped/unzipped the bag nearly 50 times over the past week and felt that I found the “Goldilocks” piece of gear missing from my everyday carry bag. Even though I liked the hard clamshell case that came with the PowerA Messenger bag, the iVoler Nintendo Switch Case was better in every way except for the absence of the Nintendo Switch name/logo on the cover.

If I were to advise on the iVoler 2.0 Nintendo Switch Case, I would consider adding water-resistant zippers. Nevertheless, the iVoler device has been the right product for my Switch and has proved to be well designed, easy to use, and quite inexpensive. At sub $15, I doubt you will find a better deal.

Nomad Leather Cover for Siri Remote & AirTag 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/nomad-leather-cover-for-siri-remote-airtag-review/ https://macsources.com/nomad-leather-cover-for-siri-remote-airtag-review/#respond Wed, 08 Jun 2022 15:47:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=109914 Leather Cover helps Form and Function meet Fashion

As a father of four children, aged thirteen, ten, seven, and three, I never expected to spend so much time hunting for remotes.  As the kids utilize remotes for the television, sound bar, or Apple TV, they somehow cast master-level Hogwarts spells and banish them from the realm.  Despite rules that the remotes cannot leave the room, I experience a daily Easter Egg Hunt to uncover their creative resting places.  Even though I sometimes question maleficence, I know the kids do not purposefully lose them.  Thus, I continue to accept the quest for the lost treasure.

Nomad Leather Cover for Siri Remote & AirTag 2022 REVIEW

When Apple released their AirTags in April of 2021, I began to add them to my keyrings, backpacks, and ultimately to other devices like my remotes.  The Nomad Leather Cover arrived in a 2 9/16 inches wide by 6 9/16 inches tall by 1-inch thick silver hanging-style package.  The cover panel provided a large, slightly-raised, 5 3/8 inches tall glossy image of the Apple TV remote within a classy black leather cover.

The silver background matched the attractive silver color of the Apple TV remote and contrasted beautifully against the black leather cover.  At the bottom of the panel, Nomad provided a white column with information about their Leather Cover case and Siri Remote (2nd Gen) & AirTag.  Both side panels listed the Nomad name in bold black font atop a silver topographical map background.  The lower white segment provided a micro image of the case and listed the Ashland Brown Leather color.

The bottom panel provided a few product manufacturing labels plus a unique SKU barcode with a jeep climbing the image.  The rear panel provided a Horween Leather logo and information about the material, the hidden AirTag Pocket, and the ability to locate the device with the Find My App. Beneath the segment, you will find two images of the case, an upper side by side image of the case patina at day 1 vs 100 and a lower picture with the included AirTag.  Lastly, the lower segment proudly displayed the carbon-neutral status of the company since 2020.

To access the case, I gripped the upper mesh hanging loop and pulled the inner brown cardboard tray out from the shell.  The 1.1-ounce brown Leather Cover measured 5 1/2 inches tall by 1 9/16 inches wide by 3/4 inches thick and provided a refreshing leathery aroma.  The brown outer shell had trapezoidal cutouts for the infrared sensor at the top of the case (1 1/16 inches wide top by 7/8 inches wide base by 1/4 inches tall), Siri button at the right of the case (1-inch wide top by 9/16 inches wide base by 1/4 inches tall), and charging port (13/16 inches wide top by 1/2 inches wide base by 5/16 inches tall).

The inner surface of the Leather Cover was lined with a soft black felt material that covered most of the back plate and all of the inner edges. The only area that was spared was the centrally located Master Lock-shaped AirTag cutout.  The larger 1 1/8 inches diameter by 5/16 inches tall cutout was attached to a 5/16 inches tall by 11/16 inches wide by 5/8 inches tall U-shaped finger cutout.

Nomad Leather Cover for Siri Remote & AirTag 2022 REVIEW

I removed the plastic tab from the AirTag, placed it by my phone, and started the pairing process. The AirTag setup menu appeared at the bottom of my phone and I tapped “Connect.”  I scrolled through the AirTag name options (Backpack, Bike, Camera, Handbag, Headphones, Jacket, Keys, Luggage, Umbrella, Wallet) and ultimately selected “Custom Name.”

I named the AirTag “Apple TV,” selected the green apple emoji, and agreed to the linked information. I placed the AirTag into the case, added the remote to the Leather Cover, and set the 3.7-ounce combo onto my end table.  I pressed my finger into the middle of my Home Screen, swiped down, and searched for “Find My.”  I navigated to items, selected the Apple TV, and then played the sound.  I was impressed with the map, the ability to play sound, the level of the sound, and the navigation/“Find” option.

Pairing the remote with the AirTag allowed me to discover that the remote fell beside my bed and when my children moved the remote into the basket on my wife’s side of the bed.  The ring option was sufficiently loud to recover the device and combined nicely with the navigation feature when the remote went missing.  I loved the quality of the HORWEEN leather, the smell of the product, the feel of the slim case within my hand, and the story of the Chicago-based company.

The patina on the case, like many I have tested previously, will only beautify with time. If interested, you can use the included leather conditioner for added protection.  You can scan the QR code on the back of the small leather conditioner packet and follow the simple video.  The instructions suggest that you can add it to new leather, or you can refurbish slightly worn leather with small amounts of the conditioner.  Like a lustrous car post wash and wax, the case will gain a bit of a shine post conditioner treatment.

Nomad Leather Cover for Siri Remote & AirTag 2022 REVIEW

Never lose your remote again thanks to the paired case/AirTag design.  Even though this may seem like a bit of a luxury upgrade when you can control the Apple TV with your iPhone, I can attest that it is integral for families with small children. I liked the look of the brown leather against the silver controller and the dark brown case versus the lighter brown surface of my end table.

Overall, I found the price to be more than fair for the quality leather, precision cutouts, and simple yet elegant packaging presentation.  If you did not already own an AirTag, you will need to purchase one from an online or brick-and-mortar establishment because this product did not ship with an AirTag.  If you already purchased several AirTags, definitely look to nomad for your Apple TV remote needs.

MagSafe Leather Case includes detachable wallet Case for iPhone 13 Pro Max

Like nails on a chalkboard, or the thought of chewing on paper/aluminum foil, seeing an iPhone sans case evokes cringing responses.  Even though I purchase Apple Care+ for each of my devices, I still rely upon cases to protect my tech.

I love the ability to select colors, accessorize, protect, and upgrade/enhance features beyond those of the base phone.  For those looking to create a phallet/phurse experience (portmanteau of phone/wallet or phone/purse), consider the Voscu iPhone 13 Pro Max MagSafe Leather Case.

Voscu iPhone 13 Pro Max MagSafe Leather Case

The Voscu iPhone 13 Pro Max MagSafe Leather Case arrived in a 6 15/16 inches long by 3 15/16 inches wide by 1 5/16 inches thick, black-colored case.  The VOSCU name was printed on the black faux-leather cover panel in shimmery golden font, while the top and side panels remained blank. The back panel provided the support@voscustore.com email, www.voscustore.com/suppport address, manufacturing product labels, contact information, and an SKU barcode.

I gripped the small pull tab on the front of the box and slid the drawer out from the outer shell.  I removed the thin plastic wrapper from the 5.1 ounces, 3 1/4 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall by 7/8 inches thick black iPhone wallet.  next, I removed the Voscu Lifetime Warranty Card that was hiding behind the device.

Scan the QR code within fourteen days to register the device for the lifetime warranty.  The rear panel of the card detailed the 100% money-back guarantee (defects, shipping damage, non-artificial quality issues, change your mind).  Interestingly, the 100% guarantee panel did not provide any timeline stipulations.  For more information, you can contact service.voscu@gmail.com.

I was impressed with the smooth black leather surface, the meticulous black stitching, and the magnetic trapezoidal closure flap. I unfolded the 1 5/8 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches wide base by 1 3/4 inches wide tip magnetic closure and laid the 7 1/4 inches wide wallet face down.  Like the cover, the smooth, rich leatherwork extended onto the spine and most of the back of the case.

The VOSCU name was etched into the back surface, just above a fold/bend in the leather.  The top left segment of the rear panel had a 1 3/4 inches wide by 1 3/4 inches tall section removed to accommodate the iPhone 13 Pro Max camera.  I flipped the device back over and found the inner flap contained three credit card slots atop a 6 inches tall by 2 9/16 inches wide money pocket.

The bottom card slot was likely designed for a driver’s license or identification card and had a semi-opaque cover with a central finger slot to slide the card upward.  The other two cards were easily removed and required minimal effort.  Excitedly, the cards did not fall out when I shook the wallet upside down.

The opposite side of the case had a removable, 1.2-ounce, 3 1/4 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall by 7/16 inches thick rubberized bumper style case with magnetic backing ring.  The inner surface of the case was lined with soft black felt and displayed the VOSCU name in a dark black font.

The left side of the MagSafe Leather Case (power button side) provided an 11/16 inches long by 1/8 inches tall power button, while the opposite side had a 11/32 inches long by 3/16 inches tall volume toggle cutout and 7/16 inches long by 1/8 inches tall aluminum volume buttons.  The bottom of the case provided three cutouts.

You will find a left-sided, 13/32 inches wide by 1/8 inches tall speaker cutout, a right-sided 9/16 inches wide by 1/8 inches tall speaker cutout, and a generously sized, 1/2 inches wide by 1/4 inches tall central lightning cutout.  The smooth surface of the rear panel was interrupted by the 1/16 inches tall raised rim of the 1 1/2 inches square camera cutout.

Voscu iPhone 13 Pro Max MagSafe Leather Case

I set the right side of my iPhone 13 Pro max into the MagSafe Leather Case and snapped the top, left, and then bottom edges into the case.  I was pleased with the fit, with the slightly raised screen protection, the magnetic attachment, the camera protection, the precision cutouts for the lighting cable/speakers, and with the responsive volume/power buttons.

However, after using Catalyst’s cases with a mute toggle wheel, I have not found any case to match the feature.  I removed the bumper case from the wallet backing and found a felt-lined inner surface.  With the strength of the internal magnetic attraction, I found that my phone remained attached despite holding the case by the card slot and shaking slightly.  Next, I lifted the card slot flap upward and shook the phone/case a few times.

Neither vertical nor horizontal shaking resulted in the phone dropping out.  The rear magnetic MagSafe attachment provided a secure connection with the outer shell.  I was able to fold the case into an A-frame and found that the case could also double as a phone stand.

The ability to add/remove the 10-ounce phone/bumper case from the outer wallet was quite convenient.  When combined, the two devices weighed only 13.9-ounces.  The lower lightning port easily accommodated various lightning chargers and the MagSafe setup allowed for wireless charging as well.

During the testing process, my 3-year-old daughter accidentally knocked the MagSafe Leather Case off of the table while we ate at Panda Express. The phone landed on the lower front corner, hit the clasp side of the case, and then landed on the back.  I quickly picked up the phone, and evaluated the screen, camera, back, and side panels of the phone/case. Excitedly, I found the case and phone were undamaged.

The magnetic MagSafe attachment remained affixed to the wallet case and the clasp remained closed.  Lastly, despite the added bulk of the wallet, the Voscu MagSafe Leather Case was able to fit into my Nite-Ize holster.

Voscu iPhone 13 Pro Max MagSafe Leather Case

I have carried the Voscu MagSafe Leather Case over the last two weeks and have grown rather fond of the case/features. The raised screen/camera ridges allowed me to set my phone onto a table without scratching the surface and the detachable bumper case allowed me to quickly answer my phone.

If I was going to design the Voscu MagSafe Leather Case 2.0, I would try to add a volume mute toggle, and I would try to direct the lower speakers forward.  Those added features would further enhance the amazing features of the case.  Lastly, if the black color is not to your liking, the case is also available in Siera Blue, Golden Brown, and Pink.

SwitchEasy MagWallet Leather Card Holder 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/switcheasy-magwallet-card-holder-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/switcheasy-magwallet-card-holder-2022-review/#respond Wed, 25 May 2022 18:10:17 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=109437&preview=true&preview_id=109437

The MagWallet keeps your cards secure against your phone.

When Apple announced that MagSafe charging was going to be added to the functionality of the iPhone, I was thrilled. I love any feature that removes a cable from a device. I was already a fan of the iPhone’s wireless charging capabilities and thought that adding MagSafe would only enhance that feature.

Not only does MagSafe charging add a higher quality charging option to the iPhone, but it has also led to the development of new products that make it easier to incorporate the iPhone completely into your daily life. I have a charging mount in my car that is MagSafe compatible as well as two charging stations (one in my bedroom and one in my office) that connect to the phone via MagSafe.

One of the accessories that I’ve been interested in has been the MagSafe wallet. Apple makes one, but so do several third-party accessory companies such as SwitchEasy.

DETAILS

The MagWallet Leather Card Holder is a MagSafe compatible case that is designed specifically to work with the iPhone 12 and 13 series phones. It’s made with premium leather and includes RFID protection. The wallet is ultra-thin – thinner than the Apple MagSafe Wallet – and features a strong magnet that keeps the wallet attached to the phone.

The MagWallet holds up to two credit cards and keeps them 100% protected from the elements. In addition to a magnet, the wallet has a built-in manganese steel plate that holds the cards securely in place and helps them slide out effortlessly. The case snaps firmly onto the back of a compatible iPhone and is designed to stay securely in place.

The case has a retail price of $34.99 on SwitchEasy.com and $29.99 on Amazon.com. There are three distinct colors available – navy blue, saddle brown, and black. The wallet is compatible with the iPhone 12/ 12 Pro/ 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13/ 13 Pro/ 13 Pro Max.

USER EXPERIENCE

The MagWallet comes in a simple box with SwitchEasy branding on it. The front of the box has a picture of the product in the color you selected. There are three features called out including MagSafe Compatible, Leather Touch, and Safe Card Storage also on the front of the box. The back of the box has an image of the wallet on a variety of different phones and positions as well as some additional information about SwitchEasy. The inside of the box has a plastic insert that holds the wallet. When it arrives, the wallet is wrapped in plastic.

One of the things that makes the MagWallet more appealing than the Apple MagSafe Wallet is that it’s thinner. The SwitchEasy MagWallet is only 6.85mm thick and the Apple wallet is 7.05mm thick. This makes the SwitchEasy wallet a little easier to handle.

The Apple MagSafe Wallet has additional colors and also comes equipped with ‘Find My’ support. While these additional features are helpful, they do add to the cost of the wallet. So, if you want a more cost-effective option, the SwitchEasy MagWallet is the better choice.

SwitchEasy MagWallet Leather Card Holder

Perhaps the most important feature of the MagWallet is the built-in magnet. This is, after all, what distinguishes the case from other wallets. The magnet snaps onto the phone easily and even connects to other metal surfaces. My fiancé has a 12 Pro and uses a MagSafe case with her phone. We tried the wallet with her case and it worked really well.

The wallet worked on my 13 Pro as well. The only issue is that it would shift from side-to-side quite a bit. It didn’t slide off with regular use, but if I shook the phone enough, the wallet would fall off. And, one time when I was getting out of my car, my wallet slipped right off the phone. Fortunately, both items were still in my pocket, but if that wasn’t the case, I would have lost my wallet and the cards along with it.

Speaking of cards, I found the wallet to be sufficient for carrying just a couple of cards. The description states that it can fit two credit cards. I have one credit card and two ID cards enclosed in my wallet. It’s pretty tight, but they do fit. There is a cutout on the back that provides a way to push the cards out of the case. I have found this slot very helpful as I use the wallet.

CONCLUSION

The MagWallet from SwitchEasy is a nice alternative to the Apple MagSafe Wallet. It’s not as expensive as the Apple version but it also does not include tracking technology. The wallet doesn’t seem to have as strong of a hold as the Apple wallet when you are using it without a case, but it’s more secure when used in conjunction with a MagSafe case. I think the wallet is a stylish accessory that takes advantage of MagSafe well. I do wish the magnet was a bit stronger.

Harber London Slim Microfibre Sleeve for iPad Pro with Apple Pencil Holder 2022 REVIEW https://macsources.com/harber-london-microfibre-sleeve-ipad-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/harber-london-microfibre-sleeve-ipad-2022-review/#comments Fri, 06 May 2022 17:45:07 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=108468&preview=true&preview_id=108468 Microfibre sleeve provides practical protection for your most mobile computing devices.

I’ve never been the type of tech-user that keeps my devices locked up in a case. I prefer minimal protection whenever possible because I believe the engineers and product designers who created the items I’m using made them tough to withstand daily use. With that in mind, I usually walk around with a naked iPhone and iPad – unless I know I will be traveling. For this reason, I’m glad that Harber London added an iPad sleeve to their Microfibre product line.

DETAILS

The Slim Microfibre Sleeve for iPad Pro with Apple Pencil Holder by Harber London is a smart, minimalist case for the iPad Pro that is designed to hold all your essential parts together. There is an inner Apple Pencil Holder and Security Loop for protection. The sleeve is designed to fit with and without the Apple Magic/Smart Keyboard folio. The front and back of the sleeve are made with soft microfibre while the inside is 100% wool felt lining which is renewable and eco-friendly. The fabric is also anti-static and the microfibre is moisture resistant. The sleeve is handmade by expert craftsmen in Spain.

The microfibre sleeve is designed to work with the following devices:

  • iPad mini (2021): 21.8 x 16.8 cm | 8.5 x 6.6″
  • iPad 10.2″ (2019/2021): 27.4 x 21.2 cm | 10.7 x 8.3″
  • iPad Air (2019 / 2022): 27.4 x 21.2 cm | 10.7 x 8.3″
  • iPad Air (2020 / 2022) – For Magic Keyboard: 27.9 x 22.2 cm | 11 x 8.7″
  • iPad Pro 10.5″ (2017): 27.4 x 21.2 cm | 10.7 x 8.3″
  • iPad Pro 11″ (2018 / 2021): 27.4 x 21.2 cm | 10.7 x 8.3″
  • iPad Pro 11″ (2018 / 2021) – For Magic Keyboard: 27.9 x 22.2 cm | 11 x 8.7″
  • iPad Pro 12.9″ (2018 / 2021): 31 x 24.8 cm | 12.2 x 9.
  • iPad Pro 12.9″ (2018 / 2021) – For Magic Keyboard: 31.5 x 25.9 cm | 12.4 x 10.2″

USER EXPERIENCE

The microfibre sleeve arrived in Harber London’s typical classy packaging. The outer envelope is made with a heavy card stock style material. It’s all black except for the Harber London logo and website stamped on it in gold. The envelope has a perforated pull tab that releases the flap so that you can access the inside. When you open the envelope, you will find the microfibre sleeve wrapped inside some black tissue paper. This paper is also branded with a gold Harber London sticker seal.

After you pull this paper off the paper away, you will reveal the microfibre sleeve. The design of this sleeve is similar to the MacBook Pro microfibre sleeve we reviewed not too long ago. I am a big fan of the elegant but subtle Harber London branding stamp on the front of the sleeve and love the soft feel of the outside of the sleeve.

For some reason that is unknown based on the information provided by Harber London, the inside of the sleeve is lined with felt instead of microfibre. The only thing I can think of is that the felt provides an easier option for removing and inserting the iPad. The microfibre would have more traction.

Harber London Microfibre Sleeve for iPad Pro

Aside from that feature, the microfibre sleeve for the iPad Pro is really nicely designed. Care was taken to provide a slot for the Apple Pencil and there are sizing options to provide space for the iPad on its own or with the Magic Keyboard attached. Since I have the Magic Keyboard and I typically use it when I travel, I opted for that size.

The larger microfibre sleeve fits the iPad with its Magic Keyboard folio attached quite nicely. It is a snug fit, but not so snug that it’s a hassle to get the device in and out of it. The Apple Pencil (Gen 2) fits securely into its slot as well. I did attempt to shake the iPad/Case out of the sleeve and while eventually, it did start sliding out, it took some forceful shakes to get that to happen.

I can definitely see why Harber London made two distinct sizes for this sleeve. I placed the iPad alone into the sleeve and it was not secure at all. It slid around as if it were on ice and when I tipped the sleeve over, the iPad fell right out into my hand.

I feel that the iPad and its keyboard case are adequately protected and I love that you can keep both items along with the Apple Pencil secure in this sleeve – together. It wraps them all together like a kit.

And while the sleeve is nice enough on its own to carry around, I love that it’s slim enough to slide into a larger bag if needed. This is especially convenient for me because I will often travel with a very large camera backpack and I like being able to slide this into the slot intended for a tablet and not having to worry about any of the pieces getting separated.

The only improvement I would love to see made is to add some sort of closure option to the opening. Maybe just a magnetic flap that wraps around the opening so nothing can accidentally fall out would be helpful. I don’t know that it’s 100% necessary since it would take some work to get the iPad in its keyboard case to slide out of the sleeve.

CONCLUSION

The Slim Microfibre Sleeve for iPad Pro with Apple Pencil Holder from Harber London is another win for me. I love that I have two pieces of a sleek collection for my most important tech devices. The microfibre is professional-looking and practical for most uses. The design of the sleeve is slim enough to fit into other bags/cases as needed which is ideal for me. Even if you are the type of user that typically doesn’t use cases or coverings on your devices, this microfibre sleeve makes sense. The price (~$73 USD at the time of publishing) is higher than a lot of similar products that are available online.

split silicone iPhone 13 Pro Max Case REVIEW https://macsources.com/split-silicone-iphone-13-pro-max-case-review/ https://macsources.com/split-silicone-iphone-13-pro-max-case-review/#respond Wed, 04 May 2022 15:54:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=108583 Case helps to save your phone, save the planet, save the deductible.

As I upgrade to the latest iPhone model each year, I often question the value/price of the device.  I promised myself that this cycle would be different and that I would likely hold off one additional year.  This promise lasts at least until the September/October release event when the new iPhone finds itself in my shopping cart.

Luckily, I have yet to experience buyer remorse with this saga, especially when considering the ~$3.28 per day cost of owning the latest tech. I do not stop for a $2.95-$3.65 coffee at the local Starbucks, I do not smoke, and I rarely (if ever) drink alcohol.  Thus, I can easily stomach ~$4 per day for a device that I use in some way 10-18+ hours per day.

Even though I purchase Apple Care + for my Apple products, I still opt to protect my devices with cases.  I cannot fathom keeping an iPhone au naturel and letting it out for a stroll sans protection.  However, I have seen many people basking in the risk of a naked phone.  I can understand the detraction for some against a bulky, full HulkBuster style waterproof, event-proof case like the Total Impact Case from Catalyst. However, a simple bumper-style case like the split silicone case from atom studios simply makes sense.

The atom studios split iPhone 13 Pro Max case arrived in an attractive 4 3/8 inches wide by 7 7/8 inches tall by 1 1/4 inches thick retail hanging style package.  The company name was listed at the top of the cover panel, while most of the information was presented on a centrally oriented light/dark grey slipcover.

The midline segment detailed the silver aluminum and stone silicone iPhone 13 Pro Max case color scheme, the premium eco-material design, the compatibility with MagSafe, and the reassuringly protective shell.

The rear panel provided the atom studios logo, product name, QR code, silicone/metal shell information, and six product defining options: 1. Sustainable/Recycled/Durable materials. 2. Real Life Drop Testing. 3. MagSafe Compatible. 4. Slim Design. 5. Microfiber lining, 6. Plastic Free/100% recyclable packaging.   Lastly, you will find an SKU barcode, information about the 2-year warranty, and copyright information.

I slid the inner tray downward and found the 3 1/4 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall split case resting upon an internal cardboard pedestal.  The-1.5 ounce case had a 2 1/8 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches wide silver-metallic aluminum section atop a 4 3/8 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches wide tan silicone base.  You will find an atom logo etched into the surface of the top right of the aluminum section and a slightly-raised 1 1/2 inches wide by 1 9/16 inches tall camera cutout at the left.

The light tan base segment wrapped around the side, top, and bottom of the case.  The left side panel provided a 3/4 inches long by 1/8 inches wide silicone power button and dual 1/8 inches wide by 1/16 inches tall cutouts.  The right side panel provided a 3/8 inches wide by 3/16 inches tall volume toggle cutout and dual 15/32 inches long by 1/8 inches wide silicone volume buttons.  Along the bottom of the panel, you will find a central 1/2 inches wide by 9/32 inches lightning port cutout.

Flanking the cutout, you will find a right-sided 3/8 inches wide by 1/8 inches tall speaker cutout and a left-sided 9/16 inches wide by 1/8 inches tall speaker cutout. The inner surface of the case was lined with a smooth protective felt layer.  The atom studios name was printed along the bottom left of the panel, while a 3/16 inches thick by 2 1/8 inches diameter MagSafe ring could be found along the middle of the panel.

For those interested in an easy installation process, look no further than the atom studios case. Start by sliding the right edge of your phone into the case; align the volume toggle, the volume buttons with the cutout/buttons on the case, and then press your thumbs along the top edge, left side, and the bottom edge of the phone/case.  You will hear and feel a refreshing click as you install the case.

I was pleased with the placement of the cutouts, with the raised bezel on the camera, the raised front on the case, and the easily accessible lightning port.  The size/shape of the lightning port allowed full access for even the largest of lightning chargers. The case design allowed for wireless charging and included MagSafe compatible built-in magnets.

The company website noted that the magnets were 50% thicker than standard magnets.  I paired the case with the Pitaka MagEZ Slider and enjoyed the secure fit.  Despite the robust features of the case, I found the volume toggle cutout to be a bit small for my index finger.  I have grown to enjoy the crown wheel toggle on catalyst Impact Protection cases and feel that it is superior to the cutout setup.

To test the protection of the case, I dropped the phone onto each corner, at about 1 foot and 2-foot heights, to simulate an accidental drop.  I also dropped the phone onto the back and onto the front panels, both onto the carpet and my wooden floor.  I was pleased to find no damage to the phone, or to the shell.

I believe the case will pair nicely with the iPhone 13 Pro Max to reduce the chances of a more catastrophic injury.  Outside of the volume toggle port, the remaining cutouts were well placed.  The volume/power buttons were quite responsive, and the slim design allowed for easy placement into a pocket.

atom studios stand AirPods Pro Case 2022 Review https://macsources.com/atom-studios-stand-airpods-pro-case-2022-review/ https://macsources.com/atom-studios-stand-airpods-pro-case-2022-review/#respond Mon, 02 May 2022 16:16:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=108490 AirPods Pro Case acts as protective Body Armor for your earbuds.

My normal everyday carry gear (EDC) consists of a loaded car/work keyring, Big Skinny wallet, iPhone 13 Pro Max inside of Nite-Ize holster, and my AirPods Pro.  I typically keep my wallet in one front pocket, my phone on my right hip, and my keys plus AirPods Pro in the other front pocket.  Unfortunately, the keys and AirPods Pro Case do not play nice in the sandbox; I have several dings and scratches to prove it.  So, I looked to atom studios and the aluminum stand AirPods Pro Case to prevent further damage, scuffs, and marring.

atom studios stand AirPods Pro Case

The atom studios AirPods Pro Case arrived in an eco-friendly 4 inches wide by 4 inches tall by 1 5/8 inches thick hanging style package.  The atom studios name was provided at the top left of the cover panel, and the remainder of the information was listed on a slightly-raised light/dark grey midsection.  I loved the play on colors, the contrast between the dark, and the overall presentation.

The central slipcover provided a generic “AirPods Pro Case” name along the top, an attractive image of the copper case toward the left, and several case features along the right: “stand” aluminum case, bromine aluminum and calcium silicone, premium eco materials, reassuringly protective, and wireless charging compatible.  The rear panel listed the atom studies name/logo at the top and listed additional features about the device: 1. Sand-based silicone and recyclable aluminum, flat base for easy access to AirPods Pro, Designed to easily slide out of your pocket, slim design with reliable protection.

Toward the right of the panel, you will find a rear view of the copper-colored atom-shell, an SKU barcode, and product manufacturing labels.  Along the bottom of the panel, you will find some basic information about the 2-year warranty, and copyright information.

I slid the inner tray down and out from the packaging and removed the two halves of the stand case.  The 0.7-ounce lower segment measured 2 9/16 inches wide by 1 1/16 inches thick by 1 5/16 inches tall. The front/side/bottom panels were made of a single piece of copper-colored recycled aluminum, while the inner lining was a light grey silicone material. The atom studios’ name was etched into the flat lower panel, directly adjacent to the 17/32 inches long by 5/16 inches thick lighting cutout.

The 1 7/8 inches long by 9/16 inches wide flat base provided a secure footing to balance the device.  The rear light grey silicone panel had a centralized atom logo with an internal raised button.  The button aligned perfectly with the AirPods Pro case when inserted into the lower segment of the atom stand.  The front cutout allowed the internal LED to shine through the dual-layer case.

The 0.3-ounce upper segment measured 2 9/16 inches wide by 1 1/16 inches thick by 5/8 inches tall and had a front/top/side copper-colored aluminum layer and inner silicone layer.  Like the lower segment, the entire back of the case remained uncovered by metal, while the front, side, and top layers were a single molded layer of copper-colored aluminum.  However, unlike the lower segment, the top segment provided a rounded edge instead of the lower flat edge.

I inserted my AirPods Pro Case into the lower segment and then installed the upper segment.  From the front, the two pieces abutted nicely at a rim of grey silicone and created a protective metallic shield.  The shield covered the entirety of the front, sides, top, and bottom of the AirPods Pro Case but left a flat segment of the back open to the grey silicone.

At first, I was concerned that the back panel would be the chink in the metallic armor.  However, as I examined the device further, the metallic layer covered a good section of the backing to provide glancing protection and left enough to allow for wireless charging.  You will find a 2 1/8 inches wide by 1/4 inches tall oval-shaped cutout overlying the hinged segment, which allowed the AirPods Pro Case to easily open/close.  I loved that the design allowed for protection without impeding the native features of the AirPods Pro device.

For those interested in keeping their AirPods in a front pocket, the aluminum/silicon atom studios stand case will exceed your expectations.  I loved the smooth metallic finish and the ease with which I could remove and replace them in my pocket.  I loved the rear silicone layer, and the ability to maintain wireless charging without removing the case.

Without meaning to test the drop protection, my 3-year-old daughter batted the case off the table while waiting for food at Fazoli’s.  I had replaced the AirPods from my ears into the case, closed the lid, and set them down.  Like a cat, she swatted her hand to the side and sent the case flying.  The case appeared to hit the front, then rolled over the top and skidded to stop on the silicone backing.

I found a mild scuff on the top of the metal surface, which actually buffed out on my shirt.  I was happy with the makeshift test and was pleased to find no additional damage after the three-foot fall.

atom studios stand AirPods Pro Case

If you are looking for something a little different than their copper/grey color scheme, the silver/blue (silver and nitrogen) case may be more to your liking.  I enjoyed the slim design, the flat base, the open lightning port, and the beautifully designed aluminum shell.

Combined with a sub $35 cost, the stand case proved a convenient and protective addition to my AirPods Pro Case.  Although the case provides little in regards to waterproofing, I appreciated the beautiful simplicity for everyday carry.
